Weekends from 10AM-3PM you will find us serving prix fixe Afternoon Tea which brings an assortment of artisanal sweets & savories with hints of Chinese flavors, and an array of delicious teas.

Culinary Director

Chef Stefanus Susanto is the visionary behind the exceptional menu at Tea Modern Chinese, blending tradition and innovation to redefine contemporary Asian cuisine. Originally from Indonesia, Chef Stefanus brings a deep passion for Asian culinary traditions, complemented by his extensive training and professional experience.

A graduate of the Art Institute of California with a B.S. in Restaurant and Culinary Management, Chef Stefanus honed his skills in both the art and science of culinary excellence. His career began in esteemed kitchens, including an impressive eight-year tenure as Executive Chef at Tender Greens, where he showcased his creativity and commitment to quality. Prior to joining Tea Modern Chinese, Chef Stefanus served as Executive Chef for Wolfgang Puck Catering, further cementing his reputation as a culinary leader.

At Tea Modern Chinese, Chef Stefanus has infused his mastery of Asian flavors and his relentless determination into crafting a menu that delights and inspires. His dedication to fresh, authentic ingredients and his innovative approach to combining traditional techniques with modern flair have elevated the dining experience to new heights.

Meet the owner

Allan Tea, the owner of Tea Modern Chinese, is a lifelong champion of Chinese cuisine and a dedicated entrepreneur in the restaurant industry. Growing up immersed in his family’s Chinese restaurant, Capital Seafood, Allan cultivated a deep appreciation for the art and culture of Chinese dining from an early age.

With over half his life spent in the restaurant industry, Allan has consistently demonstrated his passion for food and community. In 2020, amidst the challenges of the pandemic, Allan and his wife launched Cali Dumpling, a small frozen dumpling business designed to bring restaurant-quality, hand-rolled dumplings to local Southern California neighborhoods while keeping his staff employed. What began as a heartfelt initiative has since grown into a thriving wholesale and manufacturing enterprise, delivering premium dumplings to businesses, restaurants, and homes across California and beyond.

Allan’s love for Chinese cuisine and dedication to sharing his culture continue to inspire his endeavors. Tea Modern Chinese is his latest venture, providing a modern and authentic dining experience that celebrates the richness of Chinese culinary traditions. Through his unwavering commitment and innovative spirit, Allan Tea continues to make a lasting impact on the culinary world.
